I am Linda Joseph, and I have been privileged to serve as Rabbi of Beth Chaverim Reform Congregation since 2010. I am beyond thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of this vibrant and growing reform congregation.
I was raised in Melbourne, Australia. Before entering the rabbinate, I earned degrees in Middle Eastern Studies and Semitics at Melbourne and Sydney Universities. I was ordained in 1994 and later earned an MA in Jewish Education, both from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. I have served as a student rabbi and rabbi spanning small to large congregations in Illinois, Tennessee, New Jersey, and Florida, and Melbourne, Australia. I worked in the studio of Sofer Neil Yerman repairing Torah Scrolls, and have had a wide variety of positions at the Union for Reform Judaism - the umbrella organization for reform Judaism in the United States and Canada, and have worked extensively with teen programming. I also have volunteered in the pastoral care unit of Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, FL, and I currently sit on the Board of the Women’s Rabbinic Network.
So what brought me here? I was drawn to the warmth of our members, the partnership between Rabbi and congregation, the desire for programming, the beauty of the Northern Virginia area, the proximity to Washington and the countryside, and the sacred commitment to building a spiritual home and a place of learning.
I would love to meet with you and get to know you. I would be delighted to discuss with you in what ways you can partner with us to make this your second Jewish home. Learn with us! Pray with us! Play with us! Work beside us! I am always pleased to meet with all members, create connections and build community interconnections. Be integral to our congregational family. Join us for services. Attend our classes and programs. Become active in a group or committee. We welcome you and are energized by your presence here!
Let us become part of your family. Keep us in the loop on life-cycle events in your family, or any of your needs for ritual, learning, Rabbinic guidance and counseling. We are here to support you and sustain you through the thrills and challenges of life. Keep us in the know on how our congregation can be meaningful for you. My door, our Beth Chaverim door, is open to you!
And please join me in this prayer: That we will have many fabulous years growing together and Beth Chaverim Reform Congregation will become a special place in the Jewish journey of all our lives!
